CLUB HISTORY
Joined SFL
- 1996
· Formed over 90 years ago in 1911.
· Competed in Amateur Football Association between 1911 and 1995.
· Joined the Southern Football League (SFL) competition in the 1996 season.
· The Club currently has about two hundred members comprising both men and women as players, past players and social members
· Although the Club has been going for many years, the move to the SFL was a major change in direction. This change has taken the Club to a higher level, in particular over the last four years with the inclusion of five of the old Statewide Clubs. Lindisfarne's participation in the re-vamped SFL has been encouraged by both the SFL and Football Tasmania, who have seen it as vital to have four clubs based on the eastern shore, due to the growth in that area.
· The Club is currently managing four teams, i.e. Seniors, Reserves, U/17's and a Super Rules (over 30 years old) side.
· The Club employs a strong junior focus, and in this context has strong official links with and provides ongoing support to the Lindisfarne Junior Football Club, who have over 100 players. The Lindisfarne Football Club has an ongoing commitment to providing a clear pathway for young footballers of all age groups through to playing senior football. With our large membership base, the Lindisfarne Football Club is in the position to offer potential sponsors a broad spectrum of customers.
· Every week the Club plays in localities ranging from Kermandie to Dodges Ferry, which ensures sponsors are widely promoted. This season sees the entry of two sides from the Oatlands Association.
· As an established Club in a new competition the goal has been to be competitive in the SFL in our early years, while placing an emphasis on youth for the future. The idea has been to set the Club up for the long haul in the SFL competition. To this end the Club has participated in finals twice while we have been in the SFL.
· The Club’s reserves won the regional league reserves competition last year and the U/17s once again participated in the finals.
· The Club won a number of premierships both in the seniors and reserves while in the amateurs and regularly competed in the finals, in particular throughout the 1980's and the 1990's. The Club aims to continue this record in the future.
· The Club's players have a clear pathway to Tasmania's VFL side and the Mariners.
