Brief History of Cygnet Football Club
First played in Huon Association 1906 – almost 100 years ago (the Club was then known as Lovett). The Cygnet Football Club has fielded a team continuously since 1912 (winning back to back premierships in 1912 and 1913). Since 1912, Lovett FC/Cygnet FC has won 34 Senior Premierships, (average 1 every 3 years), and approximately 20 Reserve and Under-age Premierships.
Has won 3 premierships in successive years on only two occasions, 1966, 67 and 68 under Coach, Lyell Graham (incidently all 3 teams, Seniors, Reserves and Under-ages won premierships in each of these 3 years – a phenomenal achievement). More recently the Club has won successive premierships in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
The current team now has the opportunity to create history by winning four successive premierships, something never done before in the Club’s long history. What a fantastic way to celebrate the Club’s Centenary year in 2005. The Club has also won back to back premierships on 5 occasions.
What a year was season 2004. Including the Senior, Reserve and Under 17 teams and the Club’s three Mini-League teams, the Club played in 4 Grand Finals, winning 3 premierships, one runner-up and also the Under 17’s made it to the Preliminary Final. There is a long and strong tradition within the Cygnet Club and one that all should be very proud of. It is very much a local team – with 18 of the 2004 Premiership team having come through the Cygnet Mini-League ranks. Premierships
The Senior’s 34 Premierships were won in the following years: 1912-1913, 1915, 1922-23, 1925-26, 1928, 1931, 1935, 1938, 1945, 1947-48, 1950-51, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1966-68, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1979, 1984, 1994, 2002-04. The breakdown by decade is as follows: 1910’s – 3, 1920’s – 5, 1930’s – 3, 1940’s – 3, 1950’s – 4, 1960’s – 6, 1970’s – 5, 1980’s – 1, 1990’s – 1, 2000’s – 3 The Club was also the State Country Champions in 1947 & 1948 In the thirteen year period from 1945 to 1957, The Seniors played in 12 Grand Finals, winning 7 Premierships and finishing runners-up in 5 Grand Finals.

Past Players and Officials
The Club has an active Past Players/Officials Committee who organize a function each season. This function is generally a sell-out as both the distant and recent past players and members catch up on old times.
Outstanding Servants of our Club
It is a very difficult task to pick outstanding past players and officials given the number of people who have contributed significantly to our club over the years. However three that come to mind are Greg Gordon, Leon Synnott and Jack Synnott.
